Tent and silnylon care
Although Nortent's products are of the highest quality when it comes to material selection, manufacturing, function and durability which makes them stand out from other manufacturers, there are a few things to consider when you invest in such a premium product, We want you will get many, many more years of pleasure from your investment.
Lavvo series
Silnylon is a material that is very "living", that is to say that the canvas of a Lavvo changes in size depending on the weather, humidity and heat. The advantage of using a material that is very elastic is that in strong winds, the forces are dampened when they hit the outer fabric. Thanks to it being live, there are a few things to keep in mind!
In case of changing temperature, humidity and weather, you have to adjust the tension on the outer fabric of the Lavvo models. This is done most easily by either dropping the middle pole down a hole or adjusting the stretches that are on the outer fabric at the tent pegs. A good rule of thumb is to leave the stretches in half when setting up, then you have room both to relax or stretch if necessary.
How do you know about does it need to be released on the voltage on the Lavvo?
If Lavvon looks very stretched, it probably is. A simple test is to try lifting the center bar from the hill, you can lift it up without much force, then you don't need to do anything about the tension. If, on the other hand, you cannot lift it from the hill, the tension is too high and must be relieved. Another way is to try pulling down the outer fabric at the outer stretches, you should have about 3-5 cm of movement.
General for all series
Cleaning the tent
(Silnylon)
Avoid strong cleaning agents, preferably use environmentally friendly agents. Cleaning products that are approved for use on silicone also work for use on the tent. Usually all that is needed is washing with plain water to flush away any dust and grit that has blown onto the canvas.
(Polycotton)
Clean with mild soap or other detergent that is for polyester cotton (common in functional clothing)
Water is usually enough for many situations.
Seamseal your tent (Silnylon)
The tent fabric is completely waterproof from the factory and a special thread and specially proven sewing technique is used, which makes for a very stable seam while the thread expands when wet. Despite this, the seams are not completely sealed and in order for the tent to be completely waterproof, it is required that you seal the seams of your tent, this has not been done from the factory, so it is up to you whether you choose to do it or not. If you don't do it, you have to count on a drop of water to find its way through the seams.
We recommend that you seal the seams of your tent. Then you will get a completely waterproof tent while you have reinforced the seams for an even longer durability.
When using the stove
Make sure you have enough distance from the tent canvas to the stove or stove pipes to avoid damage to the canvas. Check that the chimney pipe is not against the opening in the tent cloth or its parts (e.g. the cover cloth and the strap). Also keep in mind that the wind can create movement on an open door so that the canvas receives a badly placed stove in the wind. Use top hat and storm lines to stabilize the short stone pipe and reduce the number of burn holes in the outer fabric. All use of the stove in the tent is at your own risk, we take no responsibility for damages that may occur in connection with the use of the stove or fire in the tent
Use in winter and snow
When using the tents in winter, it is important that you regularly remove any snow that falls and remains on the canvas. Although the tents are designed to handle snow loads, the forces resting on the tent quickly become enormous. Remember that just a few centimeters of snow can give off a huge weight, e.g. 5 cm of snow can weigh up to 20 kg per square meter.
Repair of tents
Any holes left in the tent are easily repaired with ordinary silicone. Your tent comes with repair patches to repair larger tears. If you need more repair patches, you can contact us. For other damages or questions, please contact us or Nortent directly.
For a long service life
Take care of your tent, i.e. clean it if it is dirty and dusty, be sure to dry the tent before you pack it away for storage to avoid mold growth. Avoid exposing it to unnecessary UV light, i.e. preferably store it in a dark, dry and cool room. Seal your tent. In the event of a binding zipper, do not force the zipper. Investigate what is preventing its operation and contact us if necessary. If you force it, you risk destroying the zipper.
